Featured Artist Opening Reception: Robin Sussillo
Saturday, May 2 from 5 – 7pm
2859 State Hwy 14, Madrid, NM 87010
Robin Sussillo is an artist and designer based in Tesuque, New Mexico. Robin maintains a studio at her home, drawing daily inspiration from the region’s expansive skies, subtle desert textures, and quiet, shifting light.
Sussillo’s featured body of work, Desert Flutes, reflects a creative process that is both intuitive and architecturally structured. Each composition is guided by careful planning, where balance, spatial relationships, and color interactions play a central role.
The works are composed of individual elements that vary in surface and material quality, ranging from matte to glossy, smooth to tactile. While each flute maintains its own identity, it simultaneously contributes to a larger, orchestrated arrangement. Inspired by the shifting light, tonal subtleties, and layered textures of the New Mexico desert, these compositions translate landscape into abstraction. Through the interplay of color, form, and surface, the work creates a sense of visual rhythm. These rhythmic arrangements evoke a “visual symphony,” giving rise to the title Desert Flutes.
